Literature circles have long been a staple of language arts study. By harnessing the collaborative power of technology, students can engage in a novel study that can extend beyond paper and the walls of their classroom. Unlike a traditional model of literature circles, students do all of their collaborative and independent study utilizing blogs as the vehicle for group discussion and interaction. This enables the students to reflect upon, and respond to, their peers’ comments at any location, school or otherwise. Along with open and closed ended questions, reflection time and vocabulary, students have the opportunity to exchange ideas and opinions with students in other classes who are members of the same blog circle. A powerful conversation for learning.
